Module summary
This module introduces core skills and knowledge that are the foundation of design.In particular, the module is concerned with type and image. The principles of design and the appropriate usage of the design elements/tools.Objectives
The module aims to equip students with the essential theoretical understanding and practical skills to successfully work with digital images in a design context. In particular, it will:-* introduce fundamental concepts of image formation, storage and reproduction
* explain how colour is perceived and reproduced
* highlight key issues relating to intellectual property
* deliver a foundation in the layout, typography and use of colour in design
* provide experience in the use of industry-standard design software
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should have provided evidence of being able to:
* understand the basic properties of digital images together with technologies for image capture and reproduction;
* be knowledgeable about colour spaces and the process of colour management;
* appreciate issues surrounding image ownership and the appropriate usage of digital images;
* be familiar with the principles of digital design;
* exhibit competence in the use of appropriate software tools for image manipulation.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Students will be monitored through a number of ongoing mechanisms throughout the duration of the module including attendance, participation in classes and through assessments.
