Module summary

OK, so now you can speak Czech well enough to converse with the native Czechs or maybe even read a Czech paper. Do you want to put your Czech to a test? Fancy a challenge? Many British people have read and liked reading great Czech authors like Hrabal, Havel or Kundera. Very few read them in the original. You could become one of them! The aim of the course is to consolidate your knowledge of basic Czech already acquired in SLAV 2005/2006. You will read a number of texts, both literary and non-literary, in Czech. The texts should provide a framework of Czech history and cultural references on which you can build in the future. With the help of studied texts you will meet more advanced points of grammar and syntax as well as dialectal usage and become familiar with the language of Czech dictionaries. Audio and video tapes will be used as additional material to improve your language skills and overall knowledge.
