Module summaryThe module is open to students in Levels 2 and 3; and there are no prerequisites. The objective of this module is to read and to study the fascinating and at times disturbing oeuvre of one of Russia's greatest writers and to examine his relevance to our time.Syllabus: After a general introduction, the ideas arising from The House of the Dead, Notes from Underground and Crime and Punishment will be discussed in turn.Teaching will take the form of lectures and seminars.Assessment comprises two essays of approximately 1,500 words each.For more information, please contact the Departmental Secretary Mrs A. ObjectivesTo read and to study the fascinating, and at times, disturbing oeuvre of one of Russia's greatest writers and to examine his relevance for our time.
After a general introduction, the ideas arising from A Weak Heart, The House of the Dead, Notes from Underground and Crime and Punishment will be discussed in turn.
Methods of assessment
Two assessed essays of approximately 1500 words each.
