Objectives
On completion of this module students should be familiar with the principles of analysis and characterisation using a variety of techniques; know the basic instrumentation for most techniques covered; be aware of the strengths and limitations of each technique and be able to compare and contrast them in relation to the analysis and characterisation of polymers and surfaces; be able to give some specific examples of applications for each of the techniques; and be aware of the types of data that can be obtained from the different techniques and know how to interpret data.Syllabus
Various relevant analytical methods will be covered, including chromatographic techniques, spectroscopic techniques, microscopy, thermal analysis and particle sizing. Study will include the methods and instrumentation involved, the type of data obtained and common ways of interpreting this data.
