Students must also be taking either LUBS3070 Strategic Management OR
LUBS3080 Business Strategy

None, although previous workplace experience would be an advantage.

Objectives

On completion of this module students will be able to:
- Articulate the nature, process and scope of management consulting
- Manage, as a small group, a real consulting project with an external client within a defined timescale.
- Experience the research, delivery and exit components of the consulting process.
- Judge the suitability of various consulting tools or analytical techniques, and to apply them in practice, if deemed appropriate.
- Apply skills of team working during the consulting process and in delivering a written report and verbal presentation
- Apply skills of planning, communication, problem solving and initiative.
- Develop their professionalism and commercial awareness through their engagement with an external client/organisation
- Appreciate the range of career opportunities in the field of management consulting.

Learning outcomes
The module aims are to develop students' management consultancy skills through undertaking a real life consultancy project with a client organisation. Students will work in small groups on a project with the aim to deliver value to the client. In the process, students will have the opportunity to appreciate the value that consultancy can bring to an organisation. They will also be able to develop and reflect on their consulting skills. In order to prepare students undertaking the project, the module will provide the opportunity for students to learn about the nature and process of management consulting, to develop skills which are fundamental to successful consulting, and to reflect on the value of consulting skills to a range of careers.

Private study

Students are expected to spend their private study undertaking research and analysis (60 hours), writing the project report (30 hours) and individual log (50 hours). Students are also expected to arrange self managed team meetings (12 hours).

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Fieldwork supervision is undertaken by the client. An academic supervisor is assigned to oversee each group project, and should meet with the group 3 times during semester 2.
