Objectives
The aim of this module is to:Develop an understanding of the need to adapt standard imaging techniques
Identify potential barriers to communication which will affect imaging techniques
Develop knowledge in the area of maxillo facial imaging
Reflect upon the role of the radiographer in multidisciplinary working environments
Develop strategies for delivering information and teaching within the clinical setting
Evaluate the influences of patient age upon standard imaging techniques and develop strategies to deal with a wide range of patient ages
Develop knowledge regarding the role of the radiographer in forensic imaging
Enhance knowledge and understanding of the role of the radiographer in imaging head trauma using CT
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module the students will be able to:
1. Evaluate situations where radiographic technique needs to be adapted to specific patients
2. Discuss principles around which technique adaption is based
3. Discuss the role of the radiographer in forensic imaging
4. Reflect upon the role of the Radiographer as part of the multidisciplinary team
5. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the importance of clinical teaching and deliver basic information
Skills outcomes
- Identify appropriate imaging techniques and adaption required to image their patient appropriately
- Develop methods of imaging a diverse range of patients
- Produce and deliver clinical teaching resources
- Develop maxillo-facial and head imaging techniques
Syllabus
Students will analyse situations where adaptation of basic skills in undertaking radiographic examinations of the musculo-skeletal system, thorax and abdomen are required
Interact with users and carers in developing an understanding of the patients perspective in an imaging examination
Review technique for imaging of the maxillo-facial region
Discussion of the need for and methods of teaching in the clinical environment.
Evaluation of the clinical department as a learning environment and methods for creating a good clinical learning environment.
Development of basic CT knowledge to incorporate the imaging of the head in trauma cases
Reflection upon the role of the radiographer in multidisciplinary team working.
