Objectives
This module aims to provide a critical appreciation at an advanced level of the fundamental theories and concepts in relation to business decisions of multinational corporations and the institutional framework and activity of foreign exchange markets. The module attempts to relate theory to current corporate business decisions in an international context and the implications for businesses of being exposed to currency exchange rate risk.Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to critically assess:
- key determinants and components of domestic and foreign currency exchange rates
- concepts and techniques involved in managing exposure to exchange rate risk
- the institutional framework and activity of foreign exchange markets
- use of hedging instruments

Syllabus
The module requires students to be able to confidently use, interpret and manipulate financial formulas and numerical data. There are not pre-requisites for the module nor is the passing of this module a pre-requisite for any other module. The module is assessed by means a group assessed coursework (30%) and a 1.5 hour written examination (70%).
The syllabus provides coverage of some of the fundamental concepts and theories underpinning International Business Finance and indicative contents include: an overview of international financial management; the international monetary system; the foreign exchange market; international parity relationships; dealing with currency risk in international settings, using financial instruments to hedge foreign currency exposure; the management of economic, transaction and translation exposures.

Pre and post lecture reading (including formative MCQs): 30 hours- Workshop reading and preparation: 20 hours
- Completion of assessed group coursework: 28 hours
- Preparation for written examination: 50 hours.
Opportunities for Formative Feedback
The students are monitored on a weekly basis in the workshop settings to which they have to prepare in advance. The students are also strongly encouraged to actively participate to the open discussions in lectures. The group assessed coursework provides students with the opportunity to use the knowledge acquired and discuss their thoughts with their peers.Methods of assessment
