Module summary
The programme culminates in your research project, supervised by leading researchers in their field. In collaboration with the teaching team, you’ll choose, design, conduct and write your research project, tailored to your chosen specialism. You, can design a project yourself or can choose from a range designed by the supervisors. The final outcome will be to write up a paper, suitable for journal publication. We’ll encourage you to submit the article, using our experience and reputation to help you.Objectives
Students taking a research project will learn the skills and acquire the knowledge necessary to conduct practical research in the area of Medical Imaging.Students will work with one of the established groups within Medical Physics, which will allow them to experience research within the field of Medical Imaging. The students will present their project in the form of a Journal style article.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Write a journal style article;
- Describe the most recent research in the area of their project;
- Explain the physical principles that are applied in the project and demonstrate an understanding of how these principles apply to the research question;
- Critically evaluate recent research in the discipline in order to identify important research questions;
- Formulate research ideas, hypotheses and questions and develop, implement and execute plans by which to evaluate these;
- Assess and appraise the validity, strengths and weaknesses of his or her own work;
- Present and defend research outcomes which contribute to the knowledge in medical imaging.

Where supervision can be identified a research project may be undertaken in any area of Medical Imaging or its application.

Private study
Each student will conduct a research project under the supervision of a member of staff; the project with involve the collection and interpretation of data by the student with reference to published evidence which they will be expected to review.Opportunities for Formative Feedback
By weekly / fortnightly individual supervision meetings with experienced members of staff during the practical aspect.The module leader will occasionally contact the supervisor and the student to receive independent feedback of the student progress from both sides.
