Pre-requisite qualifications
Successful transfer to level 2 or 3 of the MEBE degree programme.Receipt and acceptance of a suitable placement and programme of study in an overseas academic institution, approved by the module leader.
Satisfactory skills or qualifications in the language of instruction of the institution at which the placement is to be held.

Objectives
At the end of this module, students should:- Have demonstrated their ability to cope with a significant change in their environment and to adapt to a new culture and learning paradigm;
- Have broadened their understanding and knowledge of their subject specialism(s);
- Have gained a deeper understanding of the culture, institutions and working practices of the country in which they studied;
- Have, where appropriate, improved their foreign language skills;
- Have developed transferable skills in openness and sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and culture.

Syllabus
The detailed syllabus for the placement is arranged between the student, the module leader and the host institution and approved by the Study Abroad Tutor and Programme Manager. The study will normally involve an equivalent of 120 credits of taught courses in the subject area of their programme but which neither duplicate material already studied in Leeds not which will be duplicated by modules to be taken on their return. It is likely that they will supplement this with academic modules which broaden the focus of their degree programme and/or modules related to the history, culture, language or literature of the host country.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
