Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to identify how civil engineering projects impact on the environment and assess the nature of these impacts.They will understand the range of options that are available for engineers to reduce the impact of a project and increase sustainability. They will be able to undertake a full cradle to grave environmental evaluation of each phase in the construction cycle.

- How are engineers involved in environmental issues?
- Linear and sustainable development
- "The Code for Sustainable Homes"
- Environmental management systems
- Achieving carbon neutral buildings
- Case studies: redevelopment of contaminated land; restoration of polluted waters; design of water friendly buildings
- People in ecological systems - the major global crises
- Implications for Civil Engineering: the infrastructure, the built environment and communities.
