Objectives

The aim of the course is to:
- introduce the student to the idea of urban design and the place of architecture within the built environment, and
- encourage the student to explore, through drawn exercises and written analysis, the issues affecting urban development and thus
- understand the historical and theoretical evolution of urban form.

The objective of the course is that the student understands the reasons behind the formation and development of cities, and their significance, in whole or in part, as urban precedents. Students shall demonstrate their understanding through both a series of drawn analyses (Urban Analysis) and a written report (Urban Study).
