Objectives

On completion of this module, students should:
- be able to develop awareness of state-of-art research topics in nanotechnology;
- develop the skills involved in learning from research seminars presented by national and international research experts;
- develop skills in literature searching, critical analysis, information synthesis, and scientific writing.

Learning outcomes
A range of relevant current research topics in nanotechnology. Meta learning.

Syllabus

Students attend at least 5 research seminars per semester in a nanotechnology-related area. Students are free to select the seminars which they attend. Relevant series include those hosted by: SOMS, WUN Advanced Manufacturing group, Molecular & Nanoscale Physics group, Institute of Microwaves and Photonics, Polymers and Complex Fluids group, Condensed Matter group, Institute of Materials, Particles CIC, Nanomanufacturing Institute.

Students should keep a logbook containing all notes taken during the seminars which will be marked at the end of the year. Students are expected to conduct further research on all seminars attended in order to consolidate and deepen their understanding of the topic and will attend 2 seminar tutorials per semester, at which they will discuss/give brief summaries of the topics of the seminars attended.

Students will choose 2 of their attended seminars per semester, and, with the benefit of their further research, write a 1,000 word account on each seminar topic.
