Objectives

The module introduces students to processes and issues in new media production. Students attend lectures and seminars and work together to respond to new media briefs, developing critical skills, project management skills and their ability to work collaboratively. On the module, students learn through practical exercises, the experiences of collaboration and of working together to solve problems and produce responses to briefs, as well as through more conventional methods such as lectures and seminar discussions.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- produce new media artefacts;
- understand and critically evaluate issues in new media practices;
- understand and critically evaluate the individual roles and tasks involved in new media production;
- deploy relevant new media practice skills including project management, time management, problem solving, risk management;
- develop creative solutions to project briefs;
- work both individually and in a team-based environment to successfully produce a new media artefact.

Private study

Students will:
- carry out a range of set practical tasks to develop practical skills (70 hours)
- research new media practices, skills, tools, approaches (50 hours)
- meet in small groups to discuss tasks and progress (12 hours)
- research for and carry out their assessments (136 hours).

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Student progress will be monitored via participation in seminars, including informal presentations, and supervisions, as well as through assessment (at the end of the module).
