Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:- understand the role of different stakeholders;
- understand the concept of strategy and the relationship between IT strategy and organisational strategy;
- understand how performance against strategy may be monitored and evaluated;
- understand current issues in information security;
- demonstrate awareness of the techniques for developing an information security management system;
- identify potential system vulnerabilities and the impact of a security breach on business continuity;
- understand social, ethical and legal implications of information storage.
Syllabus
- The role of strategy: Purpose; development; challenges; execution.
- Organisational structure: stakeholders.
- Success metrics: impact factors, business improvement, benefits realisation.
- Information Security Management: Incentives; techniques for building an information security management system; information assets; risk assessment; threats and vulnerabilities; controls; implications for business continuity; documentation; standards; cryptography.
- Social, ethical and legal issues: compliance; data preservation; data retention policies; privacy; intellectual property rights; international law.
