Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:- compare and contrast the IT infrastructure of a range of organisations;
- demonstrate awareness of a range of business functions and the contributions they make to the enterprise;
- identify applications that support a range of business processes and explain how those applications contribute to efficiency and effectiveness;
- understand the role of IT in supporting a range of modern working practices;
- understand the strategic importance of the types of data held by modern organisations;
- understand the importance of data security and be aware of typical policies and procedures;
- understand the implications for business applications of current trends in distributed systems.
Syllabus
Organisations: SME, national and multi-national organisations; commercial, not-for-profit and public sector.
Infrastructure: Internal and external networking; desktop; portable; remote access; IT support; training.
Business functions: Financial and management accounting; marketing; production; human resource management.
Information quality.
Applications: Customer Relationship Management (CRM); Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP); Supply Chain Management (SCM); SAP; e-Business, distributed applications.
Implications of trends in distributed systems.
