Do you know about the principles which underpin the English policies and practices for pupils with special educational needs? Have you considered the roles of schools, families and pupils in educating learners with special educational needs? What is meant by inclusive education? Since current government policy states that all teachers are teachers of special educational needs, you may be interested in these questions. Special educational needs: principles and practice offers you the opportunity to learn about legislation and guidance including the relevant terminology. You will learn how national policies are interpreted in other schools and Local Authorities. There will be opportunities to consider from a range of perspectives the management and organisation of provision in different educational settings. Every Child Matters requires inter-agency working and this module gives you the chance to consider what constitute any effective partnership. You will also think about the involvement of pupils in the educational process. The module is taught by evening sessions during semester 1.
