Objectives

In this module students will conduct three short research laboratory placements in order to experience the research environment and facilities of a range of research groups and learn about a range of research areas before choosing their Main Project topic.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should:
- appreciate the interdisciplinary environment;
- be aware of a wide range of techniques available for molecular-scale engineering research;
- formulate some preliminary ideas for conducting a research project;
- make an informed decision of PhD project

Syllabus

Students will complete a 5 week placement in 3 research laboratories each from the following research areas:
- Bionanotechnology, Surface Science, Molecular Biology, Molecular-scale imaging.
- Other research labs may host placements subject to the written approval of the module leader and the relevant programme manager.
