Objectives
The aim of this unit is to provide an intensive experience of research in the area of Molecular Scale Engineering. This will include setting the broad aims for the ensuing PhD project, carrying out preliminary and investigative experiments, learning underpinning techniques specific to that project, and undertaking a preliminary review of the relevant scientific literature.Learning outcomes
By the end of the unit a candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong grasp of the specific subject area of the project. They will have a shown a capability to plan their work independently, and to work with their supervisor to define research goals. They will have reached a level of competence in the techniques necessary for their research, and will be able to analyse the data they have obtained and use it to set new research objectives.
Syllabus
The Preliminary PhD Project is an extended research project carried out in the area which will develop into your PhD project. It will involve a structured experimental or theoretical investigation of a research or development nature in the area of Molecular Scale Engineering.
