Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:- understand the fundamental principles of statics relevant to Product Designers;
- appreciate the application of statics to subsequent courses;
- possess the ability to communicate with other technically based disciplines within the Faculty.
Learning outcomes
AIM
To introduce students to some of the basis problems of engineering statics which they can encounter during product design process.
OUTCOMES
By the end of the module, students should be able (at a basic level) to:
- identify the typical forces within the structures
- perform calculations of typical forces within the structures
- appreciate influence of basic engineering principles of statics on product design
- appreciate the shapes and structures chosen for a number of common artefacts
- understand the place of materials selection in the design process
- appreciate the application of statics to subsequent courses.
SKILLS OUTCOMES
Students will have the opportunity to develop the following skills through this module:
- problem analysis
- problem solving
- independent learning.
