Objectives

On completion of this module, the student will be able to understand the principles and practice of interpreting industry seismic reflection data, in both a general geological and structural context and in a detailed sequence-stratigraphic context- both on paper sections and at the workstation.

Syllabus

- Borehole-to-surface seismic tying, synthetic seismograms and wavelet extraction
- picking
- loop-tying
- fault halokinesis and reefs
- digitising and contouring
- 3D interpretation specifics
- use of Kingdom Suite (TM) for seismic interpretation seismic stratigraphy principles, sequence analysis
- facies analysis, character analysis
- tectonic controls on sequence architecture; implications for facies distribution and prospectivity.
