Private study

You will be expected to work on your independent geophysical project during both semesters, handing in your dissertation following the Easter break. It is an extremely important part of your final year, being worth 40 credits and pass for progression. 40 credits are equivalent to about 400 hours of work, which equates to about 14 hours per week, every week, from the first week of Semester 1 and the end of the Easter break.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

You will receive on-going feedback on your research, during your regular meeting with your project supervisor.

There are also four formative assessments, on which you will receive feedback:

1. Project outline
2. Progress presentation
3. Dissertation completion plan
4. Viva

While these do not count towards your mark, you must pass the progress presentation. If you fail to meet the required standard, you will need to give another in the New Year.
