Module summary
This module is aimed at you if you are a student interested in understanding your own location within a wider cultural context. You will be introduced to an interdisciplinary approach to study. You will also consider some of the basic theories around culture and diversity and be encouraged to apply these understandings to different contexts.Objectives
This is an introductory module that will introduce students to the different discipline areas (particularly the arts and humanities disciplines) and their methodologies and will develop their confidence around study skills, including the use of technology.This will be done through focusing on the topic of Culture and Diversity. The module will enable students to understand how issues of culture, cultural difference, diversity, equality and ideology are approached from the perspective of different disciplines and why.
It will promote critical engagement with the literature devoted to the different disciplines and will seek to encourage students to reflect upon, and locate themselves, in a wider cultural context.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this module students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

-the application of theoretical insights on culture and diversity to the analysis of contemporary issues

Syllabus
The module will cover:
-An overview of the concept of culture and diversity and its links with different disciplinary foundations
-Identity and community
-Issues of culture
-Multiculturalism
-Diversity in the workplace
-Inequalities
The module will use case studies and specific examples to illustrate the concept of culture and diversity.
