Module summary

This module provides students with an overview of the methods and issues in management research.

Objectives

On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- demonstrate their awareness of the ways in which research in Management is conducted;
- understand the basic issues and the distinct approaches within the philosophy of research; and
- understand the main features, advantages and disadvantages of research methodologies and approaches as applied to the study of Management.

Syllabus

The value of research, issues surrounding validity, reliability, ethics and access. The steps and stages in the research process with some consideration of philosophical issues, strategies, approaches and purpose, how to resolve decisions to be taken at each stage and the advantages and disadvantages of different ways of resolving research issues.

How to conduct questionnaire based surveys, interviews, observation and use secondary sources. Presenting research as written reports and oral presentations.
