Module summary
This module is intended to reproduce typical situations in which a finance professional might find herself/himself. This may involve researching and gathering information, evaluating different sources of information, synthesising complex and unstructured information in a number of forms, and applying specific professional skills in order to solve problems. Using this information, you will be required to work independently and as a team to communicate information and advice in a variety of forms (for example, discussion, presentation, written report etc).Objectives
The aim of the module is to present students with unstructured business scenarios and to use these scenarios to assess students’ oral communication skills, presentation skills, team-working skills, and awareness of global and cultural issues in business. Through these scenarios, students will have the opportunity to identify and define problems, analyse financial and non-financial data, develop their commercial awareness, exercise appropriate professional and ethical judgement and develop reasoned conclusions and recommendations.Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to critically assess:
- commercial awareness and how it can be developed and improved
- what makes an effective presenter and what makes a successful presentation
- ethical issues that might be encountered by a finance professional, and how these might be managed in practice
- global/cultural issues that might be encountered in a business environment

Syllabus
Indicative content:
The module is designed around a case study company, which is presented at the beginning of the module, on which all activities and tasks for the module are then based. Students gain familiarity with the company and the industry as they progress through the module. Class activities and assessment require a range of skills to be applied to the material and the scenarios in the case study.
