Module summary

The module gives you a structured form of learning about skill development and career development, such that you are prompted and taught to consider skills and career management aspects of both yourself and your work environments. The completion of the module is composed of two self- directed personalised exercises that will assist you in the effective planning of future behaviours and actions. This core module is part of the MSc Business Management Heilbronn programme and is taught to early middle management students who are in employment.

Objectives

This module aims to provide students with the opportunity for prompted reaction and planned action through reflection on their executive, primarily, social skills at work. This reflection is then transformed by students into an audit of skills, comprising an identification of future skill needs and the development of a plan to develop relevant skills.
The module invites students to carry out career development and career planning in line with development on the programme.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to critically asses:
- the theoretical underpinnings and best practice of a range of skill areas
- the challenges of working across national cultures

Upon completion of this module students will be able to:

- Communicate in writing to an advanced academic level
- Work effectively in a team whilst identifying the challenges associated with teamwork

Private study

120 hours - Private study and independent learning will take place.

- First, directed reading in advance of taught sessions and as follow up to taught sessions.
- Second, the use of skills, personal attribute online and paper based diagnostic tools which will be used as a basis for completing assessed coursework.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Two assessed written outputs are required. Prior to final submission, students will have an opportunity to submit drafts and feedback will be provided.

Outside of the workshops, students will be given the opportunity for feedback via email and virtual learning environment discussions with the LUBS tutor. This will enable them to further monitor their progress.
