Objectives
On completion of this module, students will be able to:1. appreciate and demonstrate the benefits of work-based learning as an approach to studying and learning;
2. identify their learning needs in the context of the programme;
3. devise a strategy for developing the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to complete the programme of study at the required academic level;
4. monitor and evaluate progress towards self defined learning targets;
5. demonstrate their ability to work as self managed learners; and
6. demonstrate their ability to work with others.
Syllabus
The aim of this module is to adequately prepare students to undertake postgraduate level work and to develop skills in reflective practice. Coverage will include:
1. The work-based approach to studying and learning; that includes reflective practice and learning sets
2. Identification of personal learning needs through an Action Plan and PDP;
3. Research, bibliography and referencing, project management writing skills and the integration of theory and practice;
4. Time management and use of Learning Logs/Journals to monitor and review personal learning;
5. Self-managed learning, internet work, including the University's Virtual Learning Environment and their implications;
6. Learning with and from others while giving and receiving feedback.
