Objectives
On completion of this module students will be able to produce a feasible and fully operational project plan which:1. provides a rationale for a workplace project that clearly formulates a problem in a complex and unpredictable area and is linked to the student's role in the workplace;
2. specifies a research methodology and resources, appropriate to the project, including relevant research literature, whilst demonstrating the methodology's merits against other possible formulations;
3. specifies the scope and level of the learning to be undertaken by the student to fulfil the learning outcomes of the project module;
4. recognises the importance of working with others (colleagues and other stakeholders who have an interest in the project); to assist the execution and sustaining of workplace projects;
5. demonstrates a creative response to problems identified, that expands or redefines existing knowledge and understanding;
6. develops new approaches for the student and/or the organisation; based on reformulation of ideas in the light of experience.
Syllabus
The aim of this module is to ensure that Work-Based Learning students have the skills necessary to produce a fully worked out project plan that can be implemented in the workplace.
Coverage will include topics selected from:
- review of possible research designs and methodologies relevant to the student's area of interest; desk research;
- approaches to project design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation;
- definition of scope of project;
- presentation of alternative formulations;
- assessment of feasibility;
- barriers and opportunities in the workplace;
- negotiation skills for effective project planning and management;
- identification of resources.
