Objectives

The aim of this module is to test the student's ability to carry out a planned project in the workplace and to report the findings.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:
- Carry out autonomously a planned project in the workplace, responding creatively to unforeseen flaws in the plan or unpredicted difficulties in the workplace
- Identify and exploit opportunities for learning in the workplace
- Sustain the active participation of individuals and groups in the workplace
- Where appropriate, secure effective collaboration or support from a range of experts in the field e.g. through active membership of an expert support group/attendance at conferences/online discussion groups
- Generate valid data through complex methods of enquiry
- Analyse findings, draw conclusions and contextualise them, and provide appropriate recommendations
- Relate findings to other research evidence and make a contribution to the advancement of relevant theoretical approaches
- Communicate findings effectively to a range of academic and professional audiences (such as employer, participants, peers, researchers)

Skills outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:

- Identify and critically analyse performance metrics and related management information outputs
- Evaluate the impact of change

Subject Specific
- Apply from an informed perspective critical analysis skills (specifically in context analysis and change management analysis)


Syllabus

Indicative content
The student will work largely autonomously, but will be expected to report regularly to a mentor or manager in the workplace, and will receive teaching support through structured workshop sessions. Coverage in these sessions will include topics selected from: identifying and responding to complications in the plan; implementing projects in the workplace; adjusting project work in line with data collected; negotiation with colleagues in relation to time and resources; gaining feedback on draft work; constructing reports; dealing with criticism; presenting work.
