Objectives

This module examines the context surrounding the changing role of clinical leadership and doctors in management. It aims to identify the factors that influence relationships in organisations to produce more productive relationships such that students can evaluate their effectiveness and develop techniques for applying examples of good practice within their own organisation.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Identify, explain and critically evaluate the context of management and medicine and factors that influence relationships
- Evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives aimed at producing more productive relationships

Skills outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
Transferable
- Apply examples of good practice to their own organisation

Subject Specific
- Deploy the political and interpersonal skills relevant for the management of stakeholders in healthcare management
- Use investigative and diagnostic skills in analysing the nature of relationships between medicine and management and their outcomes

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

During the taught sessions participants will receive feedback on their contribution to discussions, case studies and other scenario-based activities. Outside of the workshops, as well as regular email communication, students will be encouraged to utilise the VLE for group discussions, questions to the tutor and feedback.
