Objectives
On completion of this module candidates will be able to:- demonstrate understanding of key financial statements, financial analysis, key aspects of internal accounting systems, performance management, investment appraisal, key concepts in corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions;
- understand how accountings systems and standards, and financial markets affect and reflect the performance and operations of manufacturing organisations;
- identify and recognise future opportunities through understanding key accounting and finance opportunities.
Skills outcomes
Candidates will have had the opportunity to develop the following skills through this module:
- to critically link theory and practice by applying conceptual tools for thinking;
- to apply theoretical knowledge in order to solve practical problems and formulate a strategic direction for a manufacturing company;
- to work and learn in a team;
- to analytically underpin the accounting and finance decision-making processes.
Syllabus
The module will run over four days, in two blocks of two days separated by a period of three weeks. The goal of the module is to help participants understand how accounting and financing decisions/processes intermingle to help create value within a business. Based on this understanding the participants will be given the opportunity to develop and test their understanding through a series of interactive case studies and scenarios.
This module consists of a balance between latest theory, empirical findings and experiential learning. As no one text covers the content of this module, all materials (cases and readings) will be provided in advance of the module.
