Objectives
On completion of this module candidates will be able to:- demonstrate a range of advanced management skills, including information gathering, presenting information to others, listening, challenging, providing helpful feedback, reflecting and learning from experience, developing an awareness of self and others;
- (through group learning) manage relationships more effectively, and improve decision-making, negotiating and influencing skills;
- investigate, reflect on and conceptualise various aspects of their professional and management experience and analyse this with members of their learning group to inform each other about their experience at work and to gain new insights that will contribute to an improved understanding of the student's own work experience;
- indicate strategies for relating the content of this and subsequent modules to their work experience; integrating the various perspectives or organisational functioning offered by the range of modules studied.
Learning outcomes
On completing this module candidates will have knowledge of concepts and theories relating to the management of relationships at work, learning from experience and self managed learning.
Skills outcomes
The module will run throughout the Programme and on completion of the programme, candidates will have had the opportunity to develop the following skills
- Information gathering, presenting information to others, listening, challenging, providing helpful feedback, reflecting and learning from experience, developing an awareness of self and others.
- Relationship management.
- Decision making.
- Negotiating and influencing skills.
Syllabus
- Introduction to advanced management skills
- How to work co-operatively and effectively and the benefits of this process
- Management of professional relationships: effective decision-making; negotiating and influencing skills
- Strategies for developing self-managed co-operative learning approaches
- How these can be utlised to enhance the management of creative processes in self and others.
- Introduction of a range of interpersonal and critical skills; strategies for embedding these in the programme as it progresses

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
During the taught sessions participants will receive feedback on their contribution to discussions, case studies and other scenario-based activities. Outside of the workshops, students will be encouraged to utilise the VLE for group discussions, questions to the tutor and feedback.Methods of assessment
