Pre-requisite qualifications

In order to be able to take this module students must be enrolled on a participating LUBS masters programme and must satisfy the academic criteria for acceptance to study at one of LUBS PG exchange partners. (This will normally require students to have passed all their modules with an average of at least 65.)

The chosen host country must not be a country where the student has previously lived, worked or studied

Must complete all modules of the participating LUBS masters programme with a minimum grade of 65.

This module is not approved as an Elective

Module summary

One semester spent studying in a partner institution in another country (usually September - December following completion of the core programme modules). The selected country must not be the student's own country of origin.

Objectives

This module aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop discipline, employability and social skills, personal responsibility and global insight in unfamiliar and diverse cross-cultural environments beyond what is provided through the participating LUBS Masters programme. In exchanges where the language of tuition is not English students will have an to opportunity to improve language and communication skills.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to evidence:
- A deeper understanding of the country in which they are studying
- Increased knowledge of subject specialism(s) gained from a different perspective

Upon completion of this module students will be able to evidence:

Syllabus

Indicative content is determined by the host institution, but strongly related to the participating LUBS Masters programme:

A guideline of an appropriate mix of business related subjects and local language and/or cultural courses.

Students studying in English
Workload: A full academic workload as defined by the host institution. Modules should usually be taken from the equivalent masters level programme at the host institution.

Approval of Modules
Students will be expected to have their module choices approved by the designated tutor to ensure that they are of an appropriate subject matter and level to complement the participating LUBS masters programme. If students at European partners undertake unaccredited language study, they may be able to have this formally recognised as part of their programme if they are able to provide sufficient detail about the programme and provide an attendance certificate showing the number of hours studied.

Assessment
Students will be registered on the LUBS 5999MPG Study/Semester Abroad module. Assessment for this module is pass/ fail and will take place once the student has returned from overseas and their transcripts have been received by Leeds. LUBS will decide whether to award a pass or fail based on the student’s transcript and online log.

Private study

In addition to work required by the host institution, seeking experiences to improve personal development. Reflecting on experiences and considering what personal strengths and weaknesses are being highlighted or addressed through those experiences. Setting personal goals and action plans to enhance strengths and improve weaknesses. Where appropriate, seeking the help and advice of peers and tutors in both the host institution and at home to advance personal development goals. Identifying barriers to personal skill development and behavior change and finding ways to overcome those barriers.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Completion of online log during time abroad. This will be monitored by designated tutor in LUBS.
Transcript received from partner institution at the end of the semester.
