Module summary
This course introduces students to the causes and issues involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict from the rise of Zionism to the present. It covers both the Arab-Israeli and the Palestinian-Israeli tracks of the conflict, exploring the Jewish problem & the rise of Zionism; the British Mandate (1920 – 1948); the first Arab-Israeli War (1948); the 1956 Suez Crisis; the 1967 Six-Day War; the 1973 Yom Kippur/October War; the Camp David Accords 1979; the Israeli invasion of the Lebanon 1982; the Palestinian resistance; the 1987 Intifada; the 1991 Madrid Peace Conference; the 1993 Oslo Accords & the 1994 Jordanian-Israeli Peace Treaty; and the 2000 al-Aqsa Intifada and the 2006 Summer War.Objectives
To survey and assess the origins and development of the Palestine problem and the Arab-Israeli conflict from the rise of Zionism until the present.Learning outcomes
To promote a better understanding of the various factors and issue in this conflict, past and present.

Syllabus
The module will cover the Jewish problem, the rise of Zionism, the mandate period, the Arab-Israeli wars since 1948 and the peace process since 1973.
