Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:- interpret simple 1H NMR spectra;
- recognise the differences and similarities between substitution and elimination reactions, draw the mechanisms of these reactions and understand the factors that influence the rate of these processes;
- understand some electrophilic reactions of alkenes and aromatic compounds;
- appreciate the concept of aromaticity.

- Proton NMR spectroscopy
- Nucleophilic substitution reactions (SN1 and SN2)
- Elimination reactions (E1 and E2)
- Alkene chemistry
- Aromaticity
- Electrophilic aromatic substitution
- Nucleophilic aromatic substitution.
