* An understanding of the key EU Directives that influence waste policy;
* A detailed understanding of the technologies available for treating organic wastes with energy recovery and how the different nations in the EU are applying these;
* Design skills appropriate to tender responses to energy from waste schemes;
* Awareness of the key research initatives across Europe driving waste reduction and renewable energy recovery.
Skills outcomes
Policy interpretation into design schemes. Tender evaluation and response. Design approaches for resources recovery.
Syllabus
The policy landscape for waste reduction and recycling. Combustion energy from waste; gasification and pyrolysis. Biogenic energy content. Mechanical pre-treatment for anaerobic digestion.
