Pre-requisite qualifications
This module is complementary to the Critically Ill Child I, and students should ideally take both modules for comprehensive coverage of the subject.This module is not approved as an Elective
Objectives
On completion of this module, students will:- understand more fully the physiological processes underlying critical illness in childhood;
- appreciate the recent advances and controversies in the management of critical illness.
Syllabus
This module covers the important acute illnesses and emergencies presenting in childhood, with particular regard to pathophysiology and to pharmacological management. A valid APLS certificate is required as part of the programme (see end of this section).
This runs concurrent with the Advocacy in Child Health module and is core training for speciality trainees.
