Objectives

On completion of this module, students will:
- understand the basic statistics used in medical research;
- be able to apply research methods to project development;
- have had an introduction to the use of computers for research, data collection and statistical analysis.

Syllabus

This module covers basic research methods and statistics with a series of problem-solving tasks. These introduce the students to research methods applicable to setting up their own projects and to the statistics they may need to use in these projects.

The course also gives students the basic skills to read medical journals critically, which are further developed in the Evidence-Based Paediatrics module.
