Objectives
In order to pass this module, students must obtain a mark of at least 30% in the final examination, as well as obtaining an overall mark of at least 40% for the whole module.This module provides an introduction to the principles of high frequency electronics.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students should have a firm grounding in the fundamental concepts and principles of high-frequency engineering and should be able to analyse and design basic passive circuits, appreciate the limitations of lumped components, and demonstrate an understanding of the principles behind distributed circuit techniques.
Syllabus
Introduction to high frequency systems; transmitters and receivers; electromagnetic fields; LC filters; practical inductors and capacitors; transmission lines; co-axial and microstrip lines; transmission line filters; high frequency amplifiers.
