Module summary
This module will develop communication, team working and time management skills. Reflective practice will be encouraged and assessed.Objectives

Learning outcomes
Primary Care
- demonstrate an understanding of the organisation of Primary Health Care systems.
- understand the roles of the different members of the Primary Health Care Team and how they interact.
- Be able to describe the presentation and management of acute and chronic diseases in primary care, unscheduled care in the community and longitudinal care of patients.
- Display a willingness to act as part of team.
Public Health
- demonstrate an understanding of the role of the Public Health Team.
- be able to describe how the health needs of a given population are assessed and how this influences service provision.
Health Informatics
- demonstrate an understanding of the role of information technology in clinical encounters, individual patient care and population based planning.
- consider how information technology can be used to enable audit and research.
- demonstrate an awareness of processes necessary to ensure system security and patient confidentiality.
Medical Education
- show an understanding of different teaching styles.
- be able to describe a number of methods of programme delivery.

Skills outcomes
Primary Care students will have the opportunity to enhance their clinical skills, Medical Education students will be enabled to develop their teaching skills and Public Health students will be given the opportunity to shadow a number of work placements in a variety of settings (clinical as well as local authority), this will enhance their team working skills and working knowledge of Public Health in England. Clinical Leadership students will again be encouraged to foster their team working skills and will have the opportunity to become involved in leading through partnership and some aspects of change management.
Syllabus
This will be a longitudinal placement running throughout the academic year (30 days in total).
Each student will attend a placement relevant to their chosen programme. They will have a mentor who will oversee their work whilst on placement. Some placement days may be spent in other settings relevant to the chosen programme, in order to widen the student’s experience. For example out of hours care for those studying primary care or the local authority for public health students.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Whilst on placement, the placement tutor will give each student oral formative feedback on the area specific to their programme (eg clinical skills in the case of primary care students).Methods of assessment

A 1500 word case study, a weekly reflective log for which a 1,000 word summary is marked. A report by the placement mentor assessing the student’s performance including teamworking and practical skills.
