Objectives
The module will provide students with opportunities to:-participate in assignments that are designed to enable them to practise and demonstrate academic, scientific and research skills from across the other science modules;
-build scientific enquiry skills necessary to facilitate the development of a research project;
-develop knowledge and understanding of scientific theories related to the study of environmental sciences, biology, chemistry and physics across the science and engineering disciplines and to interpret and evaluate basic scientific concepts and principles;
-use subject-specific intellectual qualities to communicate the results of their work; present a structured and coherent argument.
Learning outcomes
1. Acquire and apply relevant practical and scientific academic skills including critical thinking, investigative and communication skills.
2. Apply key concepts and skills associated with core sciences and mathematics modules in order to conduct an independent research project.
3. Develop academic resilience to be able to make necessary changes in order to improve learning.
Skills outcomes
-Analyse and critically evaluate information and experimental results and draw valid conclusions;
-Develop scientific and mathematical skills required for basic enquiry along with the ability to communicate information to summarise data, understanding, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;
-Ability to analyse and critically evaluate information, electronic resources & experimental results to draw valid conclusions;
-Ability to communicate information, understanding, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms; and
-Know where to find relevant and appropriate sources and the hierarchy of this information in their subject area.

-Supported development of scientific communication skills in various media (presentations, posters, debates, writing)
-Independent investigation applying knowledge from science and mathematics modules
-Self regulated learning to evaluate one’s progress and milestones in the learning process

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Formative assessments, including peer reviews, will feature throughout the module to prepare and familiarise students with assessed work.
