Objectives
On completion of this module, students should be able to:1. critically deploy managerial skills in communication, relationship building, negotiation and conflict resolution
2. apply management theory and skills in workplace setting
3. understand the operation of multi-disciplinary teams and the implications for the student's practice.

Syllabus
This module will concentrate on the personal competences required by managers in order for them to be able to carry out different management functions and roles. Competence development will be underpinned by a grasp of theory and research.
To develop as effective managers and employees, individuals need to develop themselves as individuals. This will involve the exploration of communication skills and relationship building and listening and counselling skills. This will incorporate the development of self-awareness for students regarding their particular personalities and unique management styles and leadership styles and the consequent effects on other people.
Self-management will be covered with respect to time and stress management, assertion and presentation skills. Particular emphasis will be placed on working with professionals from different disciplinary settings.
