Objectives
This module will introduce students to theoretical approaches to leadership and management and will apply this knowledge to work in the children, young people and families' workforce.Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- understand the policy background of the ten year childcare strategy
- apply critically a range of leadership theories in the development of their skills as reflective practioners in the context of multi professional working
- demonstrate a critical understanding of leadership in children's settings including apprciation of the limitations of professional practice
- apply theoretical approaches to policy and practice with children
-apply learning from one setting to other situations
-examine ethical issues associated with leadership in the children, young people and families' workforce.

- Ability to analyse critically a range of theories.
Syllabus
This module explores the challenges of leadership in children's settings. The module will commence with an examination of the historical and policy background of children's centres and the ten year childcare strategy.
The module will examine models of leadership and the challenge of managing in such settings. There will be a focus on leadership in multi-disciplinary teams and the particular issues that arise from multi-disciplinary teams working together.
