Objectives

This module aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out supervised research in financial mathematics and produce an extended piece of written work.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
- Critically asses theory and principals of financial mathematics obtained throughout the programme to the framing of specific research questions

Skills outcomes
Upon completion of this module students will be able to:
Transferable
- Effectively implement high quality scientific writing
- Work within the constraints imposed by a deadline
- Formulate detailed research design for investigation

Subject Specific:
- Complete a chosen supervised research project exhibiting high quality written skills
- Work scientifically with appropriate academic rigour in the acquisition, critical analysis and presentation of conceptual and empirical material derived from primary and secondary sources


Syllabus

Indicative content
Project definition; project plan; development of hypotheses/ research questions; desk/ secondary research; data collection and analysis of results (for empirical work); rigorous mathematical analysis (for theoretical work); conclusions; and suggestions for future research relating to a topic approved by the Programme Director through discussion.
