Objectives

The aim of the module is to provide students with opportunities to develop professional skills which are essential for success in both study and work, including: oral communication skills; presentation skills; team-working skills; commercial awareness; and awareness of global and cultural issues in business. Students will analyse a series of business issues and case studies; through these scenarios and case studies students will have the opportunity to identify and define problems, analyse financial and non-financial data, develop their commercial awareness, exercise appropriate professional and ethical judgement and develop reasoned conclusions and recommendations. Students will also be exposed to a number of different experiences designed to provide opportunities for students to practise and develop their skills.

On completion of this module students will be able to critically assess:
- Commercial awareness and how it can be developed and improved;
- What makes an effective presenter and what makes a successful presentation;
- Ethical issues that might be encountered by a finance professional, and how these might be managed in practice;
- Global/cultural issues that might be encountered in a business environment.
