Objectives
This module enables students to develop their theoretical understandings of the contemporary interaction of culture and creativity with entrepreneurship within the context of wider academic and policy debates about the significance of the cultural and creative industries.Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Define and locate the fields of culture, creativity and entrepreneurship within the broader context of social, economic and cultural theory.
- Understand, apply and critique key concepts such as cultural industries, creative industries and the creative economy.
- Examine the theoretical interaction between concepts of creativity and entrepreneurship.
- Interrogate the role of public policy in relation to contemporary strategies for developing the cultural and creative industries.
Skills outcomes
Students develop their analytical and interpretive skills.
Syllabus
Students will study the concepts of culture, creativity and entrepreneurship as key theoretical corner-stones of the programme. The module draws out the distinctive ways in which their interaction is a characteristic feature of UK city and regional strategy and interrogates the links with public policy.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback
Continuous formative assessment via classroom discussion, seminars, and tutorials. The short essay which is due in week 7 is intended to provide early formative feedback for the longer essay and to provide an opportunity to discuss progress and identify any issues with progression at an early stage. This recognises that the vast majority of the cohort will be international students, who are often not used to critical writing of this nature. The assessment will also enable tutors to identify any persistent language issues and enable extra support to be provided.Methods of assessment
