Module summary

The weekly lectures in (60 minutes) will provide details of theory and research from established 'classic psychology' paradigms. This will be disseminated through an intensive 10 week lecture series. The learning experience will be enhanced with completion of 2 Internet Based Learning Exercises (IBLEs) and supporting readings set each week. The internet based learning exercises will provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate the knowledge that they have acquired and for their progress to be monitored.

Objectives

- This module aims to provide an overview of key concepts in social psychology.
- The module will be taught by a team of experts in the subject.
- Students will be introduced to a range of information within this discipline with particular emphasis on the research expertise of the module team.
-Students will be introduced to essay writing for psychology.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to understand the basic theory, research findings and methods of investigation in social psychology

More specifically they should be able to:
- understand basic issues of theory
- understand the rationale behind social psychological research
- understand the main research findings from the established social psychological literature
- understand the research methodology adopted in the social psychological literature.

Skills outcomes
Students will have the opportunity to consider how theory and research are integrated within the field of social psychology, and how theory and research are applied to real world contexts.

Opportunities for Formative Feedback

Students will be required to complete online MCQs. A discussion board will also be set to encourage students to ask questions and discuss issues surrounding the module.
