Objectives
To provide the mathematical foundation for spectral analysis and filter theory as applied to the analysis of seismic and potential field data in applied and pure geophysics.Syllabus
The Fourier series, discrete Fourier transform and convolution theorem as applied to spectral analysis and filtering of geophysical data. Sampling theorem, aliasing and the Nyquist frequency. Bandpass filtering of seismograms. Autocorrelation and cross correlation. The z-transform deconvolution, 2D Fourier transforms and f-k filtering.
