Module summary
This module aims to consolidate knowledge of Portuguese grammar studied during the level 1 modules SPPO1082 and SPPO1083 and expand students' vocabulary range. Teaching is divided into a series of units, developing various important skills, such as the ability to work in a team, to a deadline, and the ability to assimilate and organize written and spoken material and present it in a given register, style and context. One unit, for example, includes the preparation of correspondence and a curriculum vitae in Portuguese.Students wishing to take this module should have passed either SPPO1082 or SPPO1083 in Level 1. To expose students to different uses of language and the resulting effects on register and style, to consolidate knowledge of Portuguese grammar and expand students' vocabulary range and, finally, to move away from traditional prose/translation exercises by incorporating, instead, more general linguistic skills into the preparation of language for spoken and written communication. Upon completion of this module students will be able to express themselves fluently and accurately in both Portuguese and English.Syllabus
The module will be divided into a series of units, each involving a specific exercise which will allow students to develop various important skills, such as the ability to work in a team, to a deadline, and the ability to assimilate and organise written and spoken material and present it in a given register, style and context. One unit, for example, involves the preparation of a C.V. Students will be interviewed for a mock job based on the preparation of this C.V. and covering letter.
