Syllabus
The dissertation should be the product of a student's independent study and research usually derived from an area of the degree programme in which you are particularly interested and on which you have researched during the year abroad.
You may choose your dissertation from any area of the literature, history, politics, art and culture of the Spanish or Portuguese speaking worlds, although there must be a member of staff in our subject area able and willing to supervise you in your chosen topic. You will need to contact the department early on in your year abroad and, if your topic is accepted, you will be put in contact with a supervisor who will guide you during your research.
Once back in Leeds for Level 3 you will have 6 sessions with your supervisor, who will both give you advice and read a draft introduction or conclusion and a draft chapter. You will hand in the dissertation at the end of the second semester.
Undertaking a 20-credit dissertation gives you the opportunity to write a substantial piece of work in either Spanish or Portuguese, which should significantly develop both your research and writing skills.
