Syllabus
The themes of the lectures will cover:
1. Traditional and contemporary materials, their properties and how the properties have influenced structural forms.
2. The development of different architectural movements emerging from changes in materials and associated construction techniques.
Following the first lectures, students will carry out a building review exercise in small groups. This must demonstrate their understanding of the lectures and, using secondary sources, their ability to analyze and synthesize information, as well as their organizational and drawing skills. Each review will consist of two buildings of contrasting architectural forms and different materials.
The second element of assessment is an in-class test conducted in the last week of semester one under examination conditions. The test will be based on in-class discussions and the learning materials provided in the lectures.
